MICHAEL BLEVINS: Biography & Photos

MICHAEL BLEVINS is originally from East Tennessee. He attended the University of North Carolina, majoring in Acting and Dance and continued his studies in the performing arts at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. He has appeared in several Broadway productions including, "Bring Back Birdie", Neil Simon's "Little Me", and the Tony Winning "Tap Dance Kid" in which he created the role of "Winslow". Favorite Regional Theatre credits include: Andrew in "Love Letters", with Constance Shulman, the Emcee in "Cabaret" with Tony winner Beth Leavel, and Johnny Burton [role written for Blevins] in "Drumwright" with two-time Tony winner John Cullum. Other work includes appearances in a slew of National and International TV commercials, plus network television shows and specials including the "Tony Awards Show", and a regular spot on the ABC series "The Nashville Palace". Major film roles include a bit in "Zelig", and a supporting role in the screen biography "Chaplin", yet he is most widely known for his portrayal of Mark in the movie "A Chorus Line".
Blevins feels fortunate having worked for many Tony and Academy Award winning Directors and Choreographers including Sir Richard Attenborough, Joe Layton, Woody Allen, Vivian Matalon, Peter Gennaro, Danny Daniels and Bob Fosse. He has performed with a wide variety of top-notch performers including Chita Rivera, Michael Douglas, Andy Griffith, Donald O'Conner, Diane Lane, Victor Garber, Brooke Sheilds, Savion Glover, James Coco, Bebe Neuwirth, Jane Krakowski and Robert Downey, Jr. He has been featured on "Good Morning America" for ABC-TV and on the covers of "Dance Magazine" and "USA Today".
Mr. Blevins is also an accomplished Director/Choreographer having choreographed the Off-Broadway production of "The Mad Forest" for the Manhattan Theatre Club and most recently the NYC revival of "Seesaw" produced by The Group Theatre Too, at the Connely Theatre, and several
national TV commercials for "Days Inn", plus music videos for redording artists Melba Moore and Amy Grant. He has lent his choreographic assistance to a long list of network television specials including "How To Be A Man" with Scott Baio for CBS and "The Country Music Awards" with Charlie Daniels and Barbara Mandrell for NBC. He has Directed and Choreographed the
National Tours of "Babes In Toyland", "Aladdin", and "Tom Sawyer" for the American Family Theatre.
Michael Blevins is a highly respected and experienced teacher having sustained an International teaching career for over twenty years. Along with Gwen Verdon he co-founded the MTW Academy the first young people's Musical Theatre program run by a professional Off-Broadway theatre company. Blevins' students include: noted Broadway Dance Center teacher, Justin Boccitto, Broadway and film actress Melissa Errico, Broadway's and TV's ,Alfonso Ribeiro of "Fresh Prince" fame; Broadway and Television actor Frank Dolce, Emmy Winner Jason Samuels, and Tony Award winner Savion Glover, and was asked to teach Macaulay Culkin to tap dance for a Bob Hope television special. He has been a resident teacher for New York University's Tisch School of the Arts exclusive studio program. Other teaching engagements have been with NYC's Broadway Dance Center, Summerfest Ballet Conservatory, Public School Systems in New York state, NYC, and New Jersey, the Tennessee Association of Dance, Georgia State University, Nebraska Dance Teachers Association and the Folkuniversitete Balettakademien under the artistic direction of Lia Schubert in Gothenburg, Sweden.[Madame Lia Schubert is the Artistic Advisor for Les Ballets Persans in Sweden,

Stockholm and Gothenburg Ballet Academy in Sweden
and Dance Center in Haifa, Israel
] Blevins recently attained the distinctive honor of giving Bob Fosse's grandson, Sean, his first dance lessons. He is currently on the Guest Teaching Faculty of New York City�s Broadway Dance Center, and spends his weekends as Artistic Director for the noted Centenary Young Performers Workshop ["A State Treasure!", Peter Filicia, THE STAR LEDGER] a professional musical theatre training program for young people, housed by the Centenary Stage Company, an Equity theatre in residence at Centenary University.
Michael is an award-winning and published playwright with numerous titles to his credit. He is the bookwriter and co-author of music and lyrics for the new musical COUNT TO TEN which was an official selection of the New York Musical Theatre Festival 2009 and was awarded Best New musical by National Youth Theatre. In addition to Count to Ten, he was commissioned to write the book, music, and lyrics for The Carol, a musical adaptation of the Dicken's Christmas classic that enjoyed a long, successful run at JCCT, the oldest continuing community theatre in the State of Tennessee. He is also co-author of the social awareness one-act play aftermath soon to be published by Heuer Publishing currently enjoying production by The Group Theatre Too, LLC tour through High Schools and Middle Schools in the Northeast.
In addition to several one-act plays to be performed by children, Michael also co-created An American Sampler: 100 Years of Musical Theatre commissioned by the New Jersey Performing Arts Center for their state-wide Theatre Academy Program and The Broadway Kid a one-act vaudeville featuring the life, times and music of George M. Cohan.
Blevins is also He has also penned several children's plays most notably Kelly & The Internet Goblins, published by PLAYS, The Drama Magazine For Young People Blevins' newest full-length play, The Roundabout Inn will opened in Group Theatre Too's 2014-1015 season in New York City.
He is the Artistic Director for the Group Theatre Too a New York based theatre collective. He continues to pursue his career as an actor recently appeared in a NYC Equity Staged Reading, of a new play, "Murder On The Sea Bird" written by Broadway scripter Mary Orr who penned the magazine article and play "The Wisdom of Eve" on which the famous film "All About Eve" was based. As an Equity Guest Artist Blevins appeared as John Cleary in a regional production of Frank D. Gilroy's "The Subject Was Roses". Most recently Off-Broadway danced with Generation Tap at The Duke Theatre on 42nd Street in the NYC and appeared in the New York Musical Theatre Festival production in "Count To Ten". In November 2009 Blevins joined artists from around the world to celebrate one of America's greatest art forms performing selections from Bob Fosse's DANCIN' at City Center in the Career Transistion For Dancer's Benefit Gala in honor of Patrick Swayze with Tony Award Winner Laura Benanti, Ashley Bouder & Andrew Veyette from New York City Ballet, Emmy Award Winner Valerie Harper, Jacques d'Amboise, Isadora Duncan Dance Company, Kathleen Marshall, Nicole Fosse, Sean fosse, Sandahl Bergman, & Robert LaFosse.
