![]() The OAPJ program involves students in the production of short one-act plays to be presented for family and friends in the school's theatre. This fun, hands-on, process and performance oriented class, is an excellent opportunity for the young performer to gain experience through rehearsals, line memorization, blocking, character development, taking direction, commitment and teamwork as they are taken through the rehearsal process and tested through fully produced public performance.
There are 10 objectives to GTT’s SYP One-Act Playhouse Jr. Program:
1. To give students an opportunity for direct participation in the arts by working with Broadway and Off-Broadway theatre artists. 2. To increase the availability of theatre education as an accessible activity offered on the school premises. 3. To decrease the amount of idle time by filling the children’s time with an expressive, fun and educational opportunity. 4. To develop an appreciation and knowledge of theatre as a crucial form of human experience. 5. To increase grades in school by providing a learning experience that requires sustained motivation and discipline. 6. To give an understanding and clear perception of musical theatre as a career option. 7. To teach children the value of group effort and team work while working collaboratively and harmoniously in a group situation. 8. To aid students in expressing personal, artistic, sensitive and vital responses to their own work and the work of others. 9. To familiarize students with the distinctive skills and principles that make-up the creation of theatre. 10. To encourage students to embrace their unique selves by learning about and developing a respect for their own voice, mind, body and soul while inspiring students to use their imaginations in conjunction with their bodies for personal creative expression.

![]() The OAPJ program is under the direction of Broadway, Film and Television veteran Michael Blevins and GTT Company Member and NY Educator, Ryan Gregorio, who act as a principal Instructors for the OAPJ program. The program is Administered by GTT Director of Education, Juli Greenberg and housed under the direction of GTT Executive Producer, Justin Boccitto. Good reasons abound for an academic institution to align themselves with a professional New York theatre company and employ a professional director and instructors. Professional New York artists can bring a range of skills and experience to a program that are different than those of a regular faculty member or academic instructor. Programs that you thought too complex or demanding to produce can be realized with the aid of Group Theatre Too’s staff and specialized expertise. New choices create incredible possibilities in student education and of course a better production means a more engaged audience with higher attendance and powerful program growth. Not only does GTT enhance the production and classroom experience but becomes an extraordinary resource for students and faculty alike. Faculty members enjoy the new perspectives and the added experience that New York guest artists bring to practice. The Group Theatre Too and it’s staff can become an associate, a colleague, and a lasting resource long after the production and educational arts program has ceased.
